AHL AL-KHALEEJ has maintained a strong and successful partnership with Kuwait Drilling Company (KDC) for more than 25 years, dating back to August 1998, when AHL was awarded its first rig site preparation contract with KDC.
As one of Kuwait’s leading local drilling contractors operating within Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) fields, KDC plays a vital role in supporting the country’s oil and gas sector. Over the years, KDC has consistently entrusted AHL with its rig site preparation requirements — a reflection of the confidence built through AHL’s proven track record of high-quality service, operational reliability, and on-time project delivery.

Throughout this long-standing partnership, AHL has consistently provided rig site preparation services in support of BWD’s drilling operations across Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) fields.

Prior to this period, Sinopec had engaged another civil works contractor; after AHL secured the deep rig contract, Sinopec awarded the rig site preparation works to AHL based on our proven quality, reliability, and timely delivery.

Special Milestones and Landmark Achievements
Our First Project - Location MN-085
Our journey began at Location MN-085 in the Minagish Oil Field, West Kuwait, with a modest fleet of two wheel loaders, one motor grader, one vibratory roller, one bulldozer, one water tanker, and one low-bed trailer. From this first project, AHL’s commitment to quality, safety, and timely execution quickly earned the confidence of its clients — paving the way for additional contracts from Burgan Drilling Company and Santa Fe Drilling Company.
Emergency Construction of Relief Well Locations – Well RA-484 (2012)
One of AHL AL-KHALEEJ’s most notable achievements was its rapid response during a critical operational emergency at Well No. RA-484. During drilling operations involving UPDC Rig 878, a fire incident occurred, halting the rig’s drilling activities and creating an urgent need for alternative drilling solutions.
In response, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) instructed AHL to immediately construct two adjacent relief well locations to support well control and recovery operations. Recognizing the critical nature of the situation, AHL mobilized its resources on an emergency basis and successfully completed both relief well locations within an exceptionally short period of 17 days — against a typical delivery timeline of 30 days. The locations were delivered and released for drilling on 24 October 2012.
The successful completion of these relief well sites under stringent time constraints stands as a clear demonstration of AHL’s ability to respond effectively to emergency situations, mobilize resources rapidly, and execute critical infrastructure works — all while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Pad Development Rig Site Preparation
AHL’s involvement in this segment began on 14 November 2016, with its first contract (No. 15052177) covering locations BG-1214 to BG-1223 — a 10-well development pad project. Since then, AHL has gone on to complete 175 Pad Development locations across KOC’s fields, a track record that reflects the company’s sustained role in supporting KOC’s pad development activities from 2016 to the present day.
Pad Deep Rig Site Preparation
AHL expanded further into Pad Deep Rig Site Preparation on 14 April 2024, with its first — and to date, only — contract (No. 22058744) at the RA-J7-JG MWP location, covering well numbers RA-0927, RA-0992, and RA-0993.
This remains the only Pad Deep location built in the KOC field to date. As KOC continues to implement a mix of Deep and Development Pad locations as part of its ongoing drilling and field development activities, this initiative is being carried out in collaboration with SLB (Schlumberger), with AHL entrusted to execute the associated rig site preparation and civil works. AHL is responsible for delivering the required pad development works in accordance with KOC’s and SLB’s technical, safety, and operational requirements.
Construction of Rig Location RJ-0001 Near the Seashore (2025)
AHL AL-KHALEEJ undertook one of the most challenging and prestigious projects in its history with the construction of Rig Location RJ-0001, located near the seashore. The project required raising an area of approximately 92,925 square metres by 5 metres to create a stable, engineered platform capable of supporting a 3,000 HP drilling rig.
The scale and complexity of the project demanded significant planning, engineering expertise, and execution capability. Despite the technical challenges posed by the coastal environment and the substantial earthworks involved, AHL successfully completed the project on 10 May 2025. The location is now occupied by a Nabors drilling rig and stands as a landmark achievement for the company — representing the first project of its kind ever executed in Kuwait.
